Earth Day 2024: Check out the winners of the Valley Stream anti-litter poster contest

The Valley Stream Beautification Committee announced the winners of their anti-litter poster contest at the Village Green on April 20. All children who live in the Village of Valley Stream were eligible to participate in “Every Litter Bit Hurts” poster contest. Winners from three different age groups were presented reproductions of their winning artwork made by the Valley Stream sign shop. Rocco Pagano’s entry, “Valley Stream Clean Team” was the first grade winner. In 6th grade, A.J. Castillo’s rendition of “Keep Valley Stream Clean, took the prize as well as Alden Morales, an 8th grader.

Following the presentation of signs to the contest winners, the beautification committee weekly litter pickup began. The committee is a diverse group of Valley Stream residents consisting of adults, high school students, and junior high school students. Each week various locations around the village are chosen for litter pick up. On April 20th the committee focused on the waterway area running through the Village Green in celebration of Earth Day.
