A Homecoming celebration for Baldwin

Baldwin High School hosted its annual Homecoming festivities over the weekend and capped off the celebration with a huge 41-13 victory over Freeport High School on the football field last Saturday.

High school students got revved up for the big game last Friday during the school’s pep rally where students from each fall varsity team were introduced, some speeches were made and many students, both choreographed and not choreographed, danced their hearts out.

BHS graduate and UFC champion Chris Weidman was on hand to dole out some high-fives to the athletes and take pictures with the students. Following the ceremony, Weidman took dozens of photos with students and then addressed the varsity athletes about working hard and putting their minds to something positive.

The Homecoming festivities kicked off at 2 p.m. last Saturday and the Homecoming royalty — two students from each grade — took part in a pregame parade.

The BHS stands and sidelines were packed with people donning blue and gold and when the game got underway at 3 p.m., the home team did not disappoint, shutting Freeport out in the second half to cruise to the win and remain atop Conference I.
