A summer of reading at BPL

The Summer Reading Club at Baldwin Public Library kicked off in a big way on June 26 with “The Funn-tastic Magic Show” starring magician David Lawrence.

Dozens of children eagerly sat in the Community Room to watch the live show, and didn’t hesitate to participate.

The club is for kids entering grades one through six in the fall. They can read as many books as they like by Aug. 13, but must read at least one book to complete the program and to be invited to the special program on Aug. 19.

Starting the week of June 30, kids began reporting on their books in a number of ways. Club members can answer questions about at the books at the Children’s Reference Desk, make a drawing or painting, keep a Summer Reading Club Journal or fill out an online mini review on the library’s website.

Participants receive prizes after reading books one, three, six, 12 and 20. Baldwin schools are then notified at the end of the summer with a list of students who participated.
