Firefighters from Baldwin and neighboring communities hit were out in full force on Aug. 9, but they weren’t putting out any fires or helping a person in distress — they were marching in the 2nd annual Battalion Volunteer Firefighters’ parade.
Chief Craig Yanantuono and his assistant chiefs led Baldwin’s bravest through back streets in the community, starting on Eastern Boulevard, before marching north on Grand Avenue.
Firefighters from Oceanside, Freeport, Island Park, Long Beach and Point Lookout also marched in the parade, which ended at Baldwin’s department headquarters on Grand Avenue, between Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway. A block party consisting of food, beverages and entertainment followed.
