Bowling Bonanza

Civic Association fundraiser rolls into the cosmos

The sound of music and falling pins echoed through the Baldwin Bowl on Jan. 31, but those distractions paled before the glow on players’ faces from the cosmic light show.

Blues spun into greens, which melted into yellows, oranges and red as bowlers took to the lanes to try to pick up a spare or hit a strike.

The fundraiser netted over $900 for the Baldwin Civic Association, said President Karen Montalbano. She said 59 people attended and made use of 10 lanes.

“It was a good one,” Montalbano said of the fundraiser. “That’s the first one of the year. We’ve got the extravaganza coming up.”

She was referring to the civic association’s annual spring egg extravanganza fund-raiser, timed to coincide with Easter and Passover. Featuring family-friendly activities from pony rides to raffles, the event last year was almost snowed out. “This year we’re hoping the weather holds,” Montalbano said. The event is scheduled for March 26.

But in the meantime, Montalbano said she was satisfied with the bowling event. “It was a great way to start off the year with a lot of support from our community,” she said. “We all had a lot of fun. “
