On the first night of Hanukkah, Dec. 16, Baldwin residents came out to mark the occasion by lighting the menorah’s first candle.
A menorah lighting ceremony was held at the Long Island Rail Road station in Baldwin, which was then followed by a dinner celebration at the South Baldwin Jewish Center, at 2959 Grand Ave.
A little rain did not dampen any spirits that evening as umbrellas and winter coats were put to good use. The eight-day Festival of Lights officially got underway last week and came to a close on Dec. 24.
