Fighting Irish champs reunite

Members of the national champion 1966 Notre Dame football traveled to Baldwin last week to take part in a reunion of sorts and to honor Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford), who graduated from law school at Notre Dame in 1968.

Four time Super Bowl champions Rocky Bleier and Terry Hanratty joined their fellow Fighting Irish football teammates at the Coral House on Milburn Avenue on Aug. 21.

Bleier, a member of the four-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers who spearheaded the backfield alongside NFL Hall-of-Famer Franco Harris, was severely wounded while serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He determinedly came back to play in the National Football League and enjoyed a stellar career. Hanratty, an All-American quarterback for the Fighting Irish, also played for Pittsburgh, serving as backup to starting quarterback Terry Bradshaw on the legendary 1970’s Steeler teams.
