The second half of the Nassau County high school football season begins Friday night with five games, including South Side at Carle Place (7:30 p.m.) in Conference III, and Clarke at Island Trees (6:30 p.m.) in Conference IV. In Conference II, Calhoun will try to make it two straight wins when it travels to Herricks, and Kennedy looks to get in the win column at Westbury.
All but one of Saturday's games will start at 3 p.m. Some heavyweight action is on tap in Conference I. Oceanside puts its undefeated record on the line at Massapequa, which lost for the first time in 2012 last week at Baldwin. The Bruins hit the road to take on defending champion East Meadow. Both teams are 3-1. Valley Stream Central hosts Hicksville at Firemen's Field.
In Conference II, surprising Long Beach eyes a fifth straight win out of the gate when it goes to New Hyde Park. Carey and defending champion Garden City renew their rivalry, and Elmont will try to avenge a playoff loss to Wantagh. Mepham is home against MacArthur.
