Man attempts to buy yogurt with fake $20

A Massapequa man was arrested after using a counterfeit $20 bill at Swirl Bliss on Grand Avenue in Baldwin last week, police said.

According to detectives, Michael Rapaport, 41 attempted to pay for a yogurt at Swirl Bliss with a counterfeit $20 bill on Dec. 2 at 6:36 p.m. When the owner informed Rapaport that the bill was counterfeit he fled the store on a bicycle. First Precinct officers responded to the area and located the defendant on Grand Avenue where they placed him under arrest. The defendant was found to be in possession of additional counterfeit bills in his wallet at the time of his arrest.

Rapaport was charged with 15 counts of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. He was arraigned on Dec. 3 at First District Court in Hempstead.
