Man held in burglary

A man was being held by authorities after his arrest in connection with a Nov. 20 residential burglary in Baldwin.

According to detectives from the First Squad, a 16-year-old female ran out of her Baldwin home and called 911 after hearing noises coming from a locked bedroom when no one else was at home at 11:17 a.m.

When police officers arrived, they searched the home and then went to the rear yard when they observed a man leaving the rear door carrying a safe and a screwdriver.

Officers placed the suspect, Matthew Moziy, 33, of 721 N. William St., Baldwin, into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported.

Moziy was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, and possession of burglary tools.
