New president of fundraising professionals installed

A Baldwin woman is the new president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Long Island Chapter.

Catherine Tully Muscente was formally installed on Jan. 26 at the Molloy College Suffolk Center in a ceremony during the association’s general meeting.

Muscente is executive director for development and alumni relations at Molloy College and director of the Irish Studies Institute. She joined Molloy in 1997.

Muscente manages many fundraising functions for the college including capital campaign, corporate relations, alumni relations, scholarships and grants. During her tenure, fundraising at Molloy has increased across a variety of areas.

As director of the Irish Studies Institute and chair of the Irish Advisory Board, she teams with a group of local Irish businessmen and women who have been working to build the Institute’s reputation and its offerings to the community.

Besides these responsibilities, Muscente has chaired a number of internal collegewide committees.  She is co-chair of the anniversary committee,  and is an active member of one of the 2020 task forces and the President’s Administrative Management Group.

In addition, she is on the board of directors for the Nassau County Office of Youth Services and sits on the board of the Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. Muscente has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal from the president of Molloy, and was honored in 2012 by Irish Americans In Government and by the Rockville Centre Lions Club in 2014.

Muscente holds an MBA and BA in business management from Molloy College. Muscente has lived in Baldwin since 1991, where she has beesn heavily involved with school district committees and held leadership roles for the Baldwin Council of PTAs.

Woman gets chiropractic degree

A Baldwin woman received her doctor of chiropractic degree at commencement exercises at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Port Orange, Fla., in December.

Muriel L. Fortune received the degree after completing 4-1/3 years of professional study at Palmer.

Fortune is the daughter of Michelet and Marie Fortune of Baldwin.
