What does the American flag mean to you? To the winners of the annual Flag Day Art and Essay contest, organized by Assemblyman Brian Curran and held at Greis Park in Lynbrook, it’s a lot more than just a flag.

Students from kindergarten up to sixth grade were eligible to enter into the contest and four students from St. Christopher School created pieces that were recognized in this year’s contest. Second-grade winner Kaitlyn Llompart, second-grade honorable mention Gisele Adames, fifth-grade winner Emily Pomerico and fifth-grade honorable mention James Kastner each received a New York State Assembly Certificate of Merit, an American Flag and a Carvel ice cream gift certificate for their hard work.

Curran honored the winners at the event with more than 350 community, friends and family members in attendance.
