Pedestrian killed in Baldwin

A tragic accident claimed the life of a pedestrian in Baldwin yesterday. According to a police report from the First Squad, an unnamed 37-year-old male was driving a 2001 Ford south “in the left lane of Grand Avenue at Lorenz Avenue when he struck a 33-year-old female pedestrian.”

Police said the woman involved in the accident, Evelyn Ramos-Coto, was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at 6:26 p.m. on Jan. 30, when she was hit. James Imperiale of the NCPD said she was transported to an area hospital, but was pronounced dead at 6:49 p.m. The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks, police said, but detectives reported no apparent criminality at this time.

Tragic... Im trying to reach out to the family.... I was a first responder on the scene... I will never forget her face...

This incident is beyond tragic and her death could have easily beenavoided if the driver had been more cautious. She was an amazing person andshe will remain in my heart forever. I love her and miss her......
