Nassau County police, with the assistance of the federal marshals, arrested a man who allegedly shot and killed a 22-year-old man outside the Love Jones Café on Aug. 2.

Dashawn Wade, 22, of Far Rockaway, Queens, was taken into custody at 6 a.m. on Sept. 4 in Hempstead, and charged with the murder of Daquan Gaskin, 22, of Baltimore. The shooting occurred early in the morning of Aug. 2 outside the Grand Avenue establishment, and less than an hour later, Gaskin was pronounced dead. A second man was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound in his leg, but was treated at an area hospital and released.

NCPD Detective Vincent Garcia said that the department “received numerous tips that helped tie [Wade] to the shooting,” in addition to the investigative work by homicide detectives. He declined to expand on the details of the investigation that led to Wade’s arrest. According to Garcia, Wade was arrested at a relative’s apartment on Terrace Avenue.

He was charged with second-degree murder, and was arraigned on Sept. 5 at First District Court in Hempstead, where Judge Douglas Lerose ordered him held without bail. He was due back in court on Tuesday, after the Herald went to press.
