Scarecrow contest is underway

During the fall months on Long Island, many people enjoy the rustic look of trees and maybe pick a pumpkin or two. But in Baldwin, a relatively new fall tradition is underway once again: the Baldwin Civic Association Community Scarecrow Contest.

The event started on Oct. 13 and entries will be accepted until Nov. 11. The BCA’s Beautification Committee is heading up the contest and is asking residents and business owners to get involved by displaying their creative scarecrows along the Grand Avenue and Merrick Road corridor.

Prizes will be awarded for the funniest, scariest, most creative and the people’s choice scarecrows. Winners will be announced at next month’s BCA meeting on Nov. 13.
