Sunrise Triangle installs new leaders

Posted

Last month, Sunrise Triangle #146 celebrated the start of a new term by installing members into their new positions. These officers are all young ladies between the ages of 10 and 21 who have raised funds for charities, helped their local community, and learned just how to be effective leaders right here in Baldwin.

The outgoing Beloved Queen, (the organization’s equivalent to president) Jessica Catapano, finished her term by giving her retiring speech to a full room of guests by thanking everyone for their support. Through their fundraising efforts, the members of Sunrise Triangle made a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Rose E. Scherer Scholarship Fund, the organization’s own scholarship program named after its founder.

After a short retirement ceremony, the installation portion began with the members taking on positions like corresponding secretary, financial secretary, flag bearer, and more. Baldwin local Maggie Callaghan was installed as the chapter’s new beloved queen.

After receiving the symbols of her office, a crown and gavel for leadership, Beloved Queen Maggie, at 15 years old, gave a speech to the more than 100 guests in attendance. As each leader of the chapter picks a mascot or theme to represent their term, this term’s theme will be focused on helping the Earth. Protecting our natural resources and encouraging others to do the same is a very important cause to the new leader.

Special guests from all over the state were in attendance, including Rochester and the Capital District. State leaders for the Organization of Triangles, Inc. including the State Director Ms. Mary Madison and the State Representative Miss. Annie Parks. A dinner was held following the public ceremony and gift baskets were raffled off as the term’s first fundraising effort.

Members also vote on who will be elected into each office including beloved queen. By choosing their own leaders who will lead each term, the members get a hands-on experience on what it means to be a leader, set a good example for others, and use every opportunity to help others.
