Cedarhurst and Woodmere package thief is arrested

Police have arrested a New Jersey man for the alleged theft of packages from a Cedarhurst home and two houses in Woodmere on Feb. 16.

Fourth Squad detectives reported the arrest of Justin Hines, 22, of, East Orange in connection with the February incidents. Hines is charged with three counts of petit larceny and will be arraigned at  First District Court in, Hempstead on Feb. 19. 

Video obtained from a homeowner on Lincoln Street in Cedarhurst showed a black man, 20 to 25 years-old, pulling up in a red Volkswagen Golf, exiting the car, walking up and onto the stoop and removing packages that were delivered roughly around 3:30 p.m. that Saturday, police said.

A subsequent investigation uncovered similar instances of package theft were committed on the same date, allegedly by the same man, at two Park Lane homes in Woodmere.
