Long Beach detectives arrested a Long Beach man on Oct. 11 at LBPD Headquarters after finding more than 10 pounds of marijuana and cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his home at 748 E. Park Ave., Police Commissioner Michael Tangney said.

Jonathan Harley, 44, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana of more than 10 pounds, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia including scales, diluents and packaging.

“Neighbors reported a strong smell of marijuana,” Tangney said, “so we went down and did an investigation.”

During a search of his home a week before the arrest, detectives discovered 100 marijuana plants, an undisclosed amount of cocaine packaged for sale and more than $90,000 in cash, police said.

The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Special Operations, Narcotics and Gangs is prosecuting the case.

“It was a good community policing operation [in collaboration] with the neighbors to correct this offense,” Tangney said.

“Thanks to the hard work and diligence of our LBPD detectives, a large quantity of illegal drugs were taken off the street," City Councilman Scott Mandel said in a statement.

“We would also like to express our gratitude towards the Nassau County D.A.’s Office Bureau of Special Operations, Narcotics, and Gangs for their close cooperation in arranging the necessary warrants, ultimately leading to the seizure of these illegal drugs and the removal of a dangerous individual from the streets of our city.”
