Rosemarie Corless
The choice of Rosemarie Corless for the North Bellmore Board of Education is an easy one. Through her work as a nurse practitioner in the pediatric cancer department at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, school trustee and PTA volunteer, Corless has demonstrated that she cares deeply about children, which is the most important quality that we like to see in a Board of Education candidate.

Two seats on the North Bellmore School District’ Board of Education are on the line in the May 21 election. In one race, incumbent JoAnn DeLauter faces challenger Frank LaMagra. North Bellmorites will have three options to chose from for the second seat: incumbent Rosemarie Corless, Peter Mayo or Greg Bashaw. The fate of the five candidates will be at the polls at Newbridge Road Elementary School.

At the close of the workday on June 30, 2012, Gunther Elementary will close its doors to North Bellmore School District children.
That was the decision the North Bellmore Board of Education rendered on Dec. 12. It came following the 21-member Committee to Explore Educational Options’ recommendation to close Gunther at the group’s final meeting in November

During a meeting last Thursday, the North Bellmore School District’s Committee to Explore Educational Options reinforced what Board of Education members said recently — a school will close. For nearly a half-hour, the CEOO then discussed why one of the six elementary schools must close.

For several years, all that has stood at Newbridge Road School was the skeleton of a playground from years ago, but that all changed recently. On March 30, children and parents alike watched as the ribbon was cut away to open a brand-new playground at the site, an accomplishment that was two years in the making.

Vandalism incidents over the summer brought a group of upset parents to the North Bellmore Board of Education meeting last Thursday. Parents of students at Newbridge Road School attended the session because they heard through other parents that needles were recently discovered on the playground.
