Robber allegedly lit get away vehicle on fire in Valley Stream

After a store clerk opened the cash register, a man who appeared to be just shopping pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and then grabbed the register drawer and dumped the money and cigarettes into a cardboard box, then removed another register drawer and fled the 7-Eleven at the intersection of Mill Road and Peninsula Boulevard in Hewlett after 8 a.m. on Sept. 30, police said.

The man then got into a large white bus, similar to an Access-A-Ride vehicle and headed east, according to police. He was described as black, wearing black pants, a black sweatshirt and a black baseball cap.

At about 9:30 a.m., Nassau County police detectives were made aware of a bus fire at Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream. The vehicle was the one used in the robbery. Police impounded the bus.
