Elect Kemp Hannon in the 6th District

Republican State Sen. Kemp Hannon is facing Democratic challenger Ryan Cronin for the 6th District seat. It is not the first time that the two have met in a political race.

Both men have similar backgrounds. Both are from Garden City and both are lawyers. And they both would represent the district well.

The two agree that people on Long Island and New York are being taxed out of their homes, and both also agree that lowering taxes through mandate relief is a key to keeping people here.

Cronin has clearly distinguished himself through his volunteer work with Special Olympics, as well as with voter protection initiatives and pro bono work at his law firm. But Hannon has a quarter century of experience in the Senate. That’s experience that the district needs, especially in tough times like this.

Hannon has sponsored and authored numerous pieces of legislation, including the I-Stop law to help track prescription drugs, as well as laws governing how schools should handle concussions and other traumatic brain injuries in students.

During his years in the Senate, Hannon has earned a position of respect among his peers. He’s the chairman of the Health Committee — an important role. He has also helped win tremendous amounts of state grant money for important local institutions such as Hofstra University.

With more experience, Cronin would make an ideal candidate for this seat, so we suggest that he first seek elected office at a more local level. At the end of the day, Hannon has the experience that the district needs and has earned the Herald’s endorsement.
