Nancy, the Cupcake Lady gave Bellmore residents the chance to have their cake and eat it too recently.

For the fourth straight syear, cupcake lovers made their way to the Bedford Avenue bakery for the shop’s annual cupcake-eating contest, which was held on July 5. Participants not only indulged in the store’s signature confections, but also helped feed the hungry by donating items to a food drive for Long Island Cares.

Shop owner Nancy Moniodes said folks were invited to take part in one of several competitions, determined by the contestants’ ages. Children had to eat one of the shop’s original-recipe cupcakes with their hands tied behind their backs, while the adults were asked to finish a dozen cupcakes as quickly as possible.

Michael Savarese won $100 by placing first in the adults’ contest.

The shop offers more than 20 types of cupcakes every day, in addition to making giant “cupcake cakes” and cookies, rice pudding and iced coffees.
