Hempstead man charged in North Bellmore burglary

Posted

A Hempstead man was arrested last Tuesday when an off-duty police officer caught him trying to break into a North Bellmore home, according to authorities.

Carlos Parada-Hernandez, 45, was apprehended at about 9:30 a.m. on June 10. Nassau County Police said he was arrested after an off-duty detective lieutenant spotted him trying to enter the side door of a house on Metropolitan Avenue.

When the lieutenant spotted Parada-Hernandez trying to enter the house, the detective approached him, identified himself as a police officer and questioned him, according to officials. His investigation revealed that Parada-Hernandez had a screwdriver and a hammer, - which police said he was using to break into the house, - and that the home’s screen doors had been pried open.

Parada-Hernandez was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglar tools.

Parada-Hernandez was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on June 12, with his bail set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond, according to a Nassau County District Attorney’s Office representative. Parada-Hernandez is represented by an attorney from the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on cases.
