Furring strips on top of roof rafters shouldn’t be continuous, to allow venting air to move sideways through rafter spaces. Half-inch plywood roof sheathing, according to code, must be nailed with 1½-inch roofing nails or 8d common nails no more than 8 inches apart into rafters. Yes, I too am seeing shoddy work from opportunists with no previous experience who just became contractors. Someday, people working on your home will be made responsible for their work.
