Kennedy's Andrew Sheehan, center, vied with Long Beach's Marc Graczyk for control at the net during the Cougars' county title victory.

Senior Justin Feigeles added a few timely kills, while junior Zach Goldhirsch celebrated his birthday by filling in for injured senior Dan Jeong, and scored the winning point in the match.

In knocking off the Marines for the fifth time this season, Kennedy overcame a strong performance from Long Beach setter Josh Eisenberg and a pair of hitters at the net, standing 6 feet 4 and 6 feet 5, who were trying to slow Anderson down. “Long Beach played very well,” Ringel said. “They game-planned for us very well. They know us inside and out, and they improved dramatically [during the season].

“It’s amazing that we’ve gotten to here for the second straight year, especially after losing eight seniors from last season’s squad,” Ringel added. “It’s been a great ride with a great group of guys. It’s a really together group.”
