Kids ‘let it go’ at library ‘Frozen’ parties

The biting cold didn’t bother families who turned out for the Bellmore Memorial Library’s “Frozen” parties last Sunday. Youngsters enjoyed a variety of sweet treats and activities featuring Elsa, Anna and the cast of characters from the popular Walt Disney film.

Disney released “Frozen” in 2013. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, “The Snow Queen,” the film tells the story of a fearless princess, Anna, who sets off on a journey alongside an iceman named Kristoff, his loyal pet reindeer Sven and a snowman named Olaf. The characters search for Anna’s sister, Elsa, whose icy powers have inadvertently trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

“Frozen” was a hit around the world and became the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Bellmore children weren’t immune to the movie’s charms, as they were excited by the chance to attend one of two themed parties at the library on Jan. 11.

Bellmore Library staff transformed the community room into Arendelle, and children’s librarian Debbie DeGrassi became none other than Elsa herself. Many of the children in attendance also wore “Frozen” garb.

In addition to posing for photos with DeGrassi, the children enjoyed cupcakes and cookies with characters’ faces on them, played Pin the Carrot Nose on Olaf and created their own Olaf snowmen out of paper. They also received “Frozen” gift bags.
