Wants Rev. Bill reappointed to OLP

The following letter was written to Bishop William Murphy of the Rockville Centre Diocese and shared with the Herald:

In my 26 years as a public official, I have never questioned a decision made by the Diocese of Rockville Centre. But upon learning of your decision to appoint Monsignor William Breslawski to another parish, I felt compelled to write on behalf of the community.

Monsignor Bill came to Lynbrook amid turmoil, and it was his good work that helped Our Lady of Peace Church and the community begin to heal and move forward. We have had many priests in the past, but Father Bill stands out far and above all of the others.

I have had the privilege of working with him on many occasions, and I consider him a community leader. I have reached out to him for his advice and counsel on issues dealing with difficult decisions both secular and spiritual. His advice has given me both guidance and direction on many village matters. His friendship has helped me greatly in my role as mayor.

I realize the church has certain policies regarding the direction in governing its parishes, however, I firmly believe in my heart that you have the authority to modify these internal regulations concerning this appointment.

I implore you on behalf of myself and the entire community to allow Monsignor Bill to be reappointed to Our Lady of Peace Church.

William J. Hendrick
Lynbrook mayor

The cure for the Common Core

To the Editor:

For the past year, I’ve attended forum after forum, listening to the parents, teachers and students that I am privileged to represent, on the matter of Common Core and its untested curriculum. That’s why I sponsored the APPLE Plan (Achieving Pupil Preparedness and Learning Excellence).
