Vinny Ang, who served as village clerk for 20 years, moved to Florida on Sept. 28 to officiate his retirement.

“It’s mixed emotions,” he said. “I’ve lived here my whole life in that house, so selling it was not an easy thing to do.”

In addition to 20 years as village clerk, Ang remained working in the village as a consultant to the Board of Trustees for six years.

“No matter what you do it’s always home,” he said. “My whole life is here.

“I worked my whole life in the village,” Ang said. “When I was a kid I worked at the Green Acres Mall at JCPenney — [Village Treasurer] Bob Fumagalli was my manager!”

Before his move to Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, Ang said that although he loved his job in the village, it was a stressful one at times.“Valley Stream is almost city-like in size, there’s almost 600 employees,” he said. “It’s a very stressful job, it can really wear on you.”

Despite this, he said he found what worked for him, was cultivating patience. “I always tried to be patient and talk to people like they were people,” he said.

Mayor Ed Fare said that Ang would be missed. “Personal, political, governmental — he knew it all,” Fare said of Ang. “He and I could talk about anything, whether it was dogs or cars or growing up in Valley Stream. Professionally, of course, and politically, he had a very keen sense as to the current political climates that were out there Vinny is going to be missed because he’s met a lot of needs.”
