Mepham Homecoming parade rerouted

Posted

Mepham High School students, teachers and administrators are preparing to show their Pirate pride at this year’s Homecoming parade, which was rerouted this year.

The Sept. 21 procession will begin at the Jerusalem Avenue School, at 2351 Jerusalem Ave., rather than the Bellmore Long Island Rail Road station. At noon, participants will set off toward Mepham through North Bellmore streets.

Marchers will leave the school’s parking lot and head east on Jerusalem Avenue, before making a right onto Newbridge Road. Participants will continue south toward Newbridge and Camp Avenue. The route then will then turn right onto Camp and end at Mepham.

Portions of each street along the route will be closed during the parade. Spectators are also expected to gather near each block.

The parade precedes the Homecoming football game, at which the Mepham Pirates will take on a cross-town rival, Calhoun High School, at 1:30 p.m.
