Merokean third in the world at the Junior Davis Cup
Courtesy Melanie Rubin

Merrick tennis phenom Noah Rubin, second from right, the No. 2-ranked American junior, placed third with his team at the Junior Davis Cup in Barcelona, Spain, last week, taking home a bronze medal. Sixteen teams from around the world competed in the tournament. The 16-year-old Rubin, who is home-schooled, relaxed after the competition by taking in a soccer game at Kennedy High School in Bellmore, which he attended as a ninth-grader and where he has a number of friends. Then he headed to Tulsa, Okla., for the Pan American International Championship, where he was the top seed. At left, from left, were Rubin and two fellow members of the Junior Davis Cup team, Jared Donaldson and Stefan Kozlov, and U.S. Tennis Association coach Nicolas Todero.
