A Uniondale man allegedly burglarized a North Bellmore pharmacy on Saturday, officials said.

According to officers from the Nassau County Police Department’s First Squad, Sergio Torres, 19, was arrested near a North Bellmore Rite Aid at 11:30 p.m. on July 12, after they say he broke into the pharmacy.

Detectives said Torres was seen fleeing from the back of the store, at 2815 Jerusalem Ave., when officers arrived. They found the back door had been pried open, which caused alarms to sound.

With assistance from the aviation and canine units, police found Torres hiding behind a pile of firewood near Rite Aid.

Torres was charged with third-degree burglary and arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday. He was asked to reappear in court on July 16, after press time.

Paul Leonard, a spokesman for Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, said Torres was conditionally released to probation. He is represented by an attorney from the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on cases.
