George said the café also features a community room that can be reserved in advance, at no charge, by community clubs and organizations looking for a meeting place. He said local groups have already expressed interest in the room, which seats 20 people and is available to be booked in the mornings and evenings, during Panera’s off-hours.
George also noted that because all pastries and breads are baked fresh daily, any extra items are donated to Island Harvest. The staff will also host tours for local Girl Scout troops and will look to sponsor school and local events.
“We’ll try to get very involved in the community,” he said. “We want to try to build a neighborhood relationship with the schools especially.”
