An Inwood man was arrested and charged in connection with a violent robbery at a North Bellmore gas station last week, authorities said.

Nassau County Police officers apprehended Gregory Scott, 59, at the Xtra Fuel gas station on Jerusalem Avenue on April 29 after he allegedly tried to rob the cash register and scuffled with employees there.

At 10:50 a.m. last Tuesday, police said Scott took an unknown amount of money from the behind the counter at the store. An unidentified, 53-year-old male employee then confronted Scott, and a struggle ensued.

Another unnamed male employee, 77, heard the two fighting and helped his coworker restrain Scott, according to officials. The 77-year-old sustained a cut on his hand, but refused medical treatment. Police did not say whether a weapon was involved.

First Precinct officers arrived at Xtra Fuel and arrested Scott. He was charged with second-degree and third-degree robbery.

Paul Leonard, a spokesman for Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, said Scott was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on April 30. He was represented by an attorney from the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on cases.
