State: Bellmore teachers make the grade

The New York State Department of Education recently released highly anticipated teacher rating statistics for the 2012-13 school year for districts across the state. Teachers are evaluated according to local measures and students’ performance on state-mandated exams. Ratings include “highly effective,” “effective,” “developing” and “ineffective.”

In the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, 86 percent of teachers were deemed to be highly effective, while 14 percent were considered effective. One teacher was rated developing. None were ineffective.

In the Bellmore School District, 76 percent of teachers were seen as highly effective and 24 percent effective. None were rated developing or ineffective.

In the North Bellmore School District, 36 percent of teachers were considered highly effective, 58 percent effective and 6 percent developing. None were ineffective.
Across Long Island, less than 1 percent of teachers were rated ineffective. For more, check out data.nysed.gov/evaluation and click on the Districts tab.
