State Farm gives $25K to Community Parent Center

Insurance company State Farm donated $25,000 on March 26 to the Community Parent Center, a Bellmore-Merrick nonprofit organization that supports parents and families with children in kindergarten to 12th grade, for its “Drive in the Safe Lane” program at Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham high schools.

The teen driving safety program aims to educate teenagers and parents about dangerous behavior at the wheel. “This will enhance what we offer and broaden our outreach to keep youth safe on the road,” said Center Director Wendy Tepfer.

The center, which also receives money from the state and Nassau County, applied for funding through State Farm’s “Good Neighbor Citizenship Company Grants,” according to Tepfer. She said State Farm donates yearly to “Drive in the Safe Lane,” but the company had not previously made such a sizable contribution.
