Two Mepham seniors to play baseball in college

Two Mepham High School seniors have signed letters of intent to play baseball in college. They are Brian Helft and Jason Foley. Both are pitchers, both are from Bellmore, and both are 17.

Helft will play for St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkhill, N.Y. Helft, who is also a golfer, took Advanced Placement English, Spanish, calculus and statistics at Mepham, and is a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to study accounting in college. He received a full academic scholarship to St. Thomas.

Foley, who also plays football and baseball, took A.P. statistics and is a member of the Spanish Honor Society. He is considering majoring in mathematics in college. Foley earned an academic/athletic scholarship to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.
