Eagle Scouts honored by legislators

Two local Scouts were recognized for the projects they undertook to better their communities and awarded their Eagle badges, at their Court of Honor ceremonies recently.

Seamus Daniel Healey, of Bellmore, was honored at the Levittown Fire Department Headquarters. Healey, for his Eagle Scout project, worked to refurbish Colby Hall at the United Methodist Church in Merrick.

As part of his work, Healey spackled and painted the walls and ceiling in the entire hall and installed carpeting on the lower half of the walls. Outside, he undertook power washing, leaf removal and concrete work to fix a leak.

Healey’s project helped several groups that use the hall as a meeting place, including Cub Scout Pack 206 and the Progressive School of Long Island, making it a cleaner and brighter spot to meet. The project took 273 hours to complete, with the help of 36 volunteers.

Nassau County Legislature Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves was on-hand to present Healey with a citation and thank him for his work.

“Seamus has given to his community something that they will be able to use for many years to come,” Gonsalves said. “Seamus’s dedication to Scouting and to the members of Troop 577 has been continuously displayed through his skilled leadership.”

Christopher Rattoballi, of Bellmore, was bestowed with his badge and also recognized at the Bellmore Presbyterian Church.

Rattoballi designed, built and installed map boards around Wantagh Park in Wantagh, to enhance visitors’ experiences of the park.

Gonsalves and Legislator Steve Rhoads attended his Court of Honor and presented him with a citation.

“Christopher has shown tremendous dedication and organizational skills to attain the rank of Eagle Scout,” Gonsalves said. “He has given back to his community something that can be used by all for many years to come.”
