Lawrence School District Parent Teacher Association members learned more about what their role is and how to be more effective advocates at an in-house training session at the Broadway campus on Sept. 13.

The PTA members received training on the organization’s mission statement, the purposes and values of PTA, what the Council and units are supposed to be doing, duties of each PTA officer, by-laws, forms that PTA is responsible to file each year, , procedures, insurance, fraud and theft, legal basics, federal requirements and not-for- profit status.

Pat Assortato, region director, Barbara Reynolds, associate director, Tiffany Capers, assistant director Section 1, Patricia Genco, region treasurer and Diane McPartland, region Secretary, from Nassau Region PTA presented the information.

The PTA mission statement states that the group is a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.

Nassau Region PTA offers training and holds events and conferences year-round. For more information, go to www.nassaupta.org.
