Lots of fun had at the Bellmore Family Street Festival

A great weekend for shopping local, eating local, and supporting Bellmore’s businesses

The Bellmore Family Street Festival returned this past weekend, drawing in troves of shoppers and diners from near and far. In its 35th year, the festival is known for its enormous size — it stretches from the Long Island Rail Road lots adjacent to Bellmore Avenue to the very end of Pettit Avenue.

There was no shortage of fun this year. The fair portion opened Thursday night, with a plethora of games and rides for families and children to enjoy in the train station parking lots.

On Saturday and Sunday, the festival took place in conjunction to the fair — local businesses and shops were out in the street, generating business and revenue in the midst of dense foot traffic. Throughout both days, a number of musical performances also took place on the many stages set up under the train station platform.

The festival is hosted annually by the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores — it is its major source of funding, so it can sponsor additional activities throughout the year.

Local businesses that took part in the festival included Planet Play, Jam Dance and Fitness Center, Built Well Solar and Urban Farmhouse, among countless others. The Bellmore Memorial Library and North Bellmore Public Library also attracted plenty of visitors at their booths on Pettit.

A fan favorite from last year’s festival, Three Ring Circus was also back, performing a cool, space-themed show. Additionally, on Sunday, the Bellmore Fire Department put on a number of demonstrations throughout the day for curious onlookers.

The festival has paved the way for the rest of the Chamber’s annual festivities. It will hosts a Halloween Parade and Trunk or Treat on Oct. 22 and a visit from Santa Claus on Nov. 25. Its Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Extravaganza are slated for Dec. 2.
