Mepham school bus involved in minor collision during Thursday's storm

At the height of Nov. 15’s surprise snowstorm, a school bus carrying Mepham students in North Bellmore was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle.

According to witness John Scalesi, at Bellmore Road and Columbus Avenue, the bus was traveling north over the Southern State Parkway bridge sometime in the late afternoon, when a vehicle traveling nearby went out of control. The bus made contact with the car, forcing it onto the curb.

According to Principal Eric Gomez, eight students were on the bus, and there were no injuries. Some students were “shaken up,” however, Scalesi said.

A second bus was dispatched to the scene to drop-off the rest of the students, Gomez said.

Nassau County police declined to comment on the incident, because there were no serious injuries or fatalities involved.
