A friend of writers

Posted

Tim Schmidt, the owner of Village Book Shoppe on N. Village Avenue was recently honored with the “Friends of the Long Island Writers’ Guild Award” by the organization of the same name.

A premier writing organization, the Guild is dedicated to fostering the development of its members and their talents and the annual award celebrates an individual or organization that has enabled the Guild and its members to perform its mission and continue its outreach on Long Island.

Schmidt, who has owned and run Village Book Shoppe since 2008, has made his store available to the Long Island Writers’ Guild to host its “LIWG Reads!” events for the public featuring members reading their works.  He has held several Guild members’ book signing events and prominently features local authors’ books. The Village Book Shoppe also conducts Nassau County poets’ readings every first Friday evening of the month. Schmidt’s goal is “to give back to the community and help keep independent bookstores alive.”

The Long Island Writers’ Guild has celebrated its 17th year, and strives to cultivate the literary excellence of local writers with free, informal workshops conducted in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. LIWG provides a supportive and educational environment, giving published and non-published writers the opportunity to present their works-in-progress, receive and provide critiquing and promote publishing opportunities. For more information about its select workshops, visit www.LIWritersGuild.Org.
