Police Seek Information

    According to police, two men began arguing with a store employee before producing a baseball bat and damaging the Deli's counter top and glass door. Upon exiting, they forcibly took another victim's blue bicycle, put it into a black four-door BMW and fled southbound on Woodfield Road. No injuries were reported.
    The first suspect is described as a 250-pound, 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-5 muscular black man in his early thirties. He is clean-shaven with short hair and has a mole on the left side of his nose. The second suspect is described as a 5-foot-5, 140-pound black man with a skinny build and fade haircut. Both men were said to be wearing a black T-shirt and black pants.
    Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

    Detectives with the Fifth Squad are investigating a robbery that occurred in West Hempstead on July 11.

    According to detectives, the male victim was walking northbound on Walnut Street around 3:45 p.m. on July 11 when he was approached from behind by two black men, said to be between 17 and 20 years old and about 5-foot-8.
    The first suspect brandished a gun while the other attempted to grab the victim's iPod Touch phone. The victim refused to release the phone and a struggle ensued. Eventually, the suspects were able to pry the phone out of the victim's hands, taking both the phone and $40 before fleeing on foot southbound on Walnut Street.
    The victim sustained cuts to his hands during the struggle and was treated at the scene by the West Hempstead Fire Department.
    Detectives ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244 TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Robbery

  • According to police, a pedestrian was robbed of a cell phone and a gold chain while walking near the intersection of Maple Street and Hempstead Gardens Drive in West Hempstead around 11:45 p.m. on July 2. The two perpetrators were described as 6-foot-tall black men of medium build, ranging between 17 and 25 years old. They were said to have used physical force during the robbery before fleeing the scene on foot.
  • A domestic dispute that occurred around 6:20 a.m. on July 3 on Janos Lane in West Hempstead resulted in a robbery, according to police. The perpetrator, who is known to the victim, used physical force to take the victim's cell phone before fleeing on foot. 
  • Detectives with the Fifth Squad request information on a robbery that took place at the Roniely Deli, located at 689 Woodfield Road in Lakeview, around 10:40 p.m. on July 5.


Criminal Mischief — Larceny from Auto

  • Police reported that four tires and rims were taken from a 2009 Infinity Sedan parked on Slabey Avenue in Malverne between 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, and 5:25 a.m. on Monday, June 28.
  • A GPS device was taken from a 2006 Subaru parked on Jennings Avenue in Lakeview between 9 p.m. on July 1 and 9 a.m. on July 2, police said.
  • According to police, some time between 8 p.m. on July 2 and 10 a.m. on July 3, a laptop computer was taken from a 2008 Nissan Versa parked on Regent Place in West Hempstead.
  • Police reported that a GPS device was taken from a 2008 Chrysler sedan parked on Concord Avenue in West Hempstead between 8 p.m. on July 2 and 10 a.m. on July 3.


Larceny Auto

  • Police reported that a 2002 four-door Mazda Millenium parked on Parkside Road in Lakeview was stolen between 7:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29.


Second-degree Assault

  • According to Nassau County police, a 36-year-old West Hempstead resident was shot in the leg by an unknown person around 4:45 a.m. on July 5 on Hempstead Gardens Drive in West Hempstead.


Petit Larceny

  • Police reported that a GPS device was stolen from a 1995 Toyota Avalon parked on Sydney Avenue in Malverne Park at some point between 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, and 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 8.


Grand Larceny

Officers with the Fifth Squad arrested a Franklin Square man for theft and possession in West Hempstead earlier this month.
    Police arrested 47-year-old Gregory Sellick, of Carlyl Avenue in Franklin Square, around 7 a.m. on July 6, after he crashed a vehicle he was accused of stealing into an embankment near the intersection of Dogwood and Cornwell avenues in West Hempstead.
    According to police, Sellick stole a 2006 Cadillac parked outside 370 Dogwood Avenue shortly after its owner, an 86-year-old man, had parked it. Shortly thereafter, Sellick drove the Cadillac up the embankment, causing damage to the front end and undercarriage, and then fled the scene on foot.
    Responding police officers searched the area and located Sellick on Evergreen Drive in Franklin Square where they arrested him without incident. He was found to be in possession of a vial containing eight pills believed to be Xanax.
    Sellick was charged with third-degree grand larceny of a motor vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an incident without a report. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on July 7. Bail was set at $5,000, cash or bond. Sellick was due back in court on July 15.
