A substitute mail carrier from Baldwin was arrested on Jan. 19 after she was seen on videotape trying to use a credit card in 2014 that had been stolen from an East Meadow resident, Nassau County police said.

Shereen Maignan, 25, of 3325 Bertha Dr., faces charges of third-degree grand larceny and first-degree identity theft, police said.

According to detectives from the Crimes Against Property unit, Maignan was videotaped on Sept. 12, 2014, at 5:24 p.m. trying to use the stolen card to buy $4,800 worth of merchandise at the Nordstrom’s in Roosevelt Field. Authorities became aware of the theft when the East Meadow resident notified the U.S. postal inspector’s office that the Chase Bank card hadn’t been delivered by the Postal Service.

The postal inspector investigated and learned that Maignan had been a substitute carrier in East Meadow at the time the card was to have been delivered.

After a joint investigation by the postal inspector and Nassau police, Maignan was found and arrested at 10:05 a.m. Jan. 19. She was arraigned later in the day in Hempstead.
