An unique event at Eisenhower Park on Sept. 21 presented an opportunity for children of all abilities — disabled or able-bodied — to play and interact with one another in a wide array of activities.

Nassau County All Inclusion Day, presented by the Let All The Children Play Foundation, included a baseball program with Hofstra Univeristy's baseball team and the Miracle League of Long Island, a baseball program for the disabled; art therapy with Hofstra University's creative art therapy program; a fitness session with Eric Chessen of Autism Fitness; a performance by the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County Singers, and a drum line performance by the FREE Players Drum Corps.

The event took place in Field 4, at the LATCP park and playground, which has customized equipment accessible to children with various disabilities.

Throughout the summer, LATCP has welcomed disabled and able-bodied children to the playground to take part in recreational programs twice a week. The programs, all free, included soccer training, dance instruction, tee ball and magic shows.

The programs culminated this past weekend with All Inclusion Day. "Everyone came together for this unique, first-of-its-kind event. Every program was open to both individuals with disabilities and individuals with more typical needs,” said Michael Alon, founder and chairman of LATCP. “Nassau County Inclusion Day demonstrated what can happen when the community is united — families, organizations, and businesses joined together to make sure that everyone was included."
