School district and Nassau County officials recently honored an East Meadow High School alumnus for achieving Eagle Scout ranking in Boy Scout Troop 157.

During the East Meadow School District’s Jan. 14 Board of Education communication meeting, trustees, central administration and faculty awarded Clay Benjamin Fried the new Superintendent’s Award for Excellence. Earlier in the month, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos also presented Fried with a citation.

Superintendent Leon Campo and board members explained that this award was created so district leaders could show their appreciation to local scouts and other students and alumni who give back to the community. They explained that community members could easily see that Fried’s Eagle Scout project positively impacted an East Meadow park.

To become an Eagle Scout, Fried had to progress through each Boy Scout ranking throughout his youth, earn 21 merit badges, serve six months as a troop leader, participate in a scoutmaster conference, complete an Eagle Scout board review and plan, develop and provide leadership to a service project for a religious organization, school or community. Fried decided to refurbish a memorial to John F. Kennedy in Eisenhower Park, officials said.

Campo, Board of Education President Joseph Parisi, Trustee Jeffrey Rosenking and East Meadow High School Principal Richard Howard spoke highly of Fried and his dedication to his project. They congratulated him for receiving such a tremendous scouting honor and wished him the best in his future endeavors.
