New York State Police officials apprehended an East Meadow man after a violent incident at Hempstead Plains Preserve, they said.

Bradley Storey, 50, was arrested on May 16 after allegedly setting 37-year-old Jon Weiss’ tent on fire after the two men fought, officials explained. Storey was charged with second-degree arson, second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment, according to a state police press release.

Police said that, while Weiss was camping at the preserve, he woke up at 9:15 p.m. to find his tent on fire. Police said he had had a physical altercation with Storey earlier in the day, but did not note when or the cause of the fight in an official press release.

In an attempt to escape the flames, officials noted that Weiss sustained burns on his legs and feet. He was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.

After the New York State Police arrived at the scene, officials said an investigation revealed that Storey was responsible. He was arraigned at the Nassau County First District Court on May 19, officals said.
