Girl Scouts visit AFC Urgent Care

Posted

Girl Scout troop 1287 and their siblings visited AFC Urgent Care’s Ted E Bear Hospital in East Meadow with Girl Scout Leaders Jeanette Rotolo, Devon Rotolo and Danielle Klein last month.

The Troop was invited to bring their teddy bears, special stuffed animals or dolls to AFC Urgent Care where the center’s “Teddy Bear Clinicians” were on hand to treat the aches, bumps, lumps and bruises.

The troop, with their special patient in tow, experienced firsthand what happens from check-in to check-out including assessing patient’s ailments, consulting with medical assistants and learning the importance of having a healthy heart. The group visited the Physical Station where they were able to listen their own heartbeats.

The troop ended their tour by visiting the Radiology Station, where a technician spoke about x-rays, bones, breaks and injuries. Every child received a teddy bear x-ray to take with them.

The kids each received a bag filled with items at each station: a coloring book, first aid kit, a future doctor’s hat and Band-Aids.  At the end of their tour, each child was asked to make a get-well-card for new AFC Urgent Care patient as their way to pay-it-forward.

AFC Urgent Care in East Meadow is always willing to hold similar events for other groups. For more information, contact Roxanne Rose, community relations director at (516) 346-5090.
