Fifteen days after Nassau County police discovered Mirian Bejarano, 52, lying unconscious on the floor of her Prospect Avenue home and emergency medical technicians pronounced her dead minutes later, her husband Hector Bejarano was arrested and charged with her murder.

“We do not believe this to be a random act of violence,” said Kevin Smith, the NCPD’s chief of detectives, at a media briefing on April 29. On Wednesday, Hector was charged with second-degree murder. The couple lived with their son and had tenants living upstairs.

According to an NCPD press release, police responded to the home after receiving a 911 call reporting an unconscious female at around 4 p.m. on April 28. Police have not yet released a cause of death.

Hector will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Thursday, police said.
