Kiwanis hosts 34th Senior Thanksgiving Dinner

There’s no busier group during the holiday season than the East Meadow Kiwanis Club. That was evidenced this weekend, when members spent Friday night at W.T. Clarke High School assembling gift baskets, which they hand-delivered Saturday morning to more than 100 needy families in the community.

The group had collected monetary and food donations for the gift baskets the last two weekends by holding drives outside local supermarkets.

On Sunday, Kiwanis kept the positive vibes going by hosting its 34th annual Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Dinner, feeding hundreds of local seniors inside of the East Meadow High School gymnasium.

The club was aided by its school-sponsored youth groups, including the K-Kids, Key and Builders Clubs, and East Meadow High School’s Future Business Leaders of America.

During the dinner, entertainment was provided by the East Meadow High School Jazz Ensemble.

The event was chaired by Mitchell Allen, Mitchell Skoller, Alan Alterman and Debbie Kirsh. The club honored Frank Saracino at the dinner, who, with his wife Joan, co-chaired the event for many years until their retirement last year.
