Kiwanis/Borrelli's golf outing set for July 21

In an effort to raise money for the East Meadow community, the local chapter of the Kiwanis Club, an international organization located in over 80 nations, will hold its annual golf outing on Monday, July 21 at 1 p.m. on the Red Course at Eisenhower Park.

Mike Litzner, Debbie Coates and Alan Beinhacker, the organizers of the event, have been involved with the Kiwanis Club for more than 20 years. The event, now in its 27th year, aims to raise $20,000 to donate to organizations like Kamp Kiwanis, a camp for underprivileged children located in upstate Taberg. Last year, the outing donated $1,500 to Easter Seals, a program that supports families with handicapped children.

“One hundred percent of the money raised goes back into the community,” Litzner said. “[The club] is not tied to anything specific. Everyone in the community is someone Kiwanis can help.”

Beinhacker said that about 130 golfers participate each year, as well as 70 sponsors.

The event will culminate at Borrelli’s Italian Restaurant in East Meadow, where they will run raffles and serve dinner.

“We all have a good time for a good cause,” Beinhacker said.
